Writing a scholarly paper, what does it take? Well, the first step is to select a topic in the area of interest, in this case, ‘Nursing.’ Then proceed to find a specific database for the assignment. For this paper, we shall explore peer-reviewed articles. Peer review can also be called: scholarly peer review, blind peer review, and refereed or refereeing (Verify Peer Review: Home, n.d).
Walden University Library is what I have explored for this assignment. It was an easy experience navigating through and rich with the vast majority of online Nursing databases such as Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), ScienceDirect, MEDLINE, Embase, ProQuest Nursing & Allied Health Database, and PubMed. To search for a specific article, go to Databases and select a subject (Nursing), then proceed to choose the type of database (Peer-reviewed), then select provider and search (Databases A-Z, n.d.).
While examining the scholarly peer-reviewed journals, it is significant to evaluate the presented evidence to build an argumentative case. Learning how to integrate other peer-reviewed sources and make an independent argument is significant to having an evidence-based paper. To support your research information, paraphrasing material or making direct quotations can enrich the paper (Using Evidence: Overview, n.d.).
It is easy to browse and present many peer-reviewed journals on whatever subject might be looking for (Xieyi et al., 2021). These Nursing databases offered a variety of journals to pick from, with many to choose from. Besides searching for a blind peer-review journal, I had to search for an article that would align and build an evidence-based argument backing up my idea. In this assignment, I utilized a database called PubMed. The article chosen for this case was “Urgent-start peritoneal dialysis in chronic kidney disease patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis compared with planned peritoneal dialysis and with urgent-start hemodialysis.” I will gladly recommend using Walden University and PubMed.
