Thanks for sharing what the different groups of payer sources. Think about it. Being a consumer, we often have more positive experiences than negative. When you work it day in and day out, we often just see and deal with the negative.
On the subject of being a consumer, in this course, we learn that the bill is different depending on the customer and the payee of bill. A customer/patient who does not have insurance may have a much higher or lower bill depending on how much they have and the ability to pay. In order to collect and have revenue, the bill can be negotiated. However, if an insurance company is paying, the bill can be negotiated for a significant reduction. Interestingly, the hospital has no qualms about charging $12.50 for a $1.00 pill. Again, this charge depends on who is paying for the bill. This system adds the confusion as to value of the services delivered. Has this happened at your organization? How does this impact the health care system? Is it positive or negative?
