PROGRAM EVALUATION GROUP PROJECT – Term Paper
Write a 15-20 page (double-spaced, including components A-E below) program evaluation plan on the topic of your choice. Your term paper will include five main components:
A. Background, rationale, and context for the evaluation. Include information about the major evaluation paradigm, as well as the purposes for evaluation. It should be clear to the reader why the evaluation is being conducted, what can be gained from it, and what the evaluation context will be. For this section, you are encouraged to organize and refine the ideas you outlined in Term Project Formative Assignment #1.
B. Logic model. Provide a detailed logic model for your program evaluation plan. At the minimum, your logic model should include the program inputs, activities, outputs, outcomes, and impact. In the body of the paper, expand on each element of the logic model in an organized manner. For this section, you are encouraged to refine your logic model publish from Term Project Formative Assignment #2.
C. Study design. Detail the primary study design. Then discuss the strengths and limitations of the study design you chose (as applied to your specific project, not just in general). Specific sub-elements to describe in the study design include, but are not limited to:
1) Descriiption of the type of study design and why it is appropriate for your evaluation goals and context (e.g., pretest-posttest control group design, Solomon four-group design, qualitative, concurrent mixed methods, sequential mixed methods, etc.)
2) Identification of any independent and dependent variables
3)Identification of any mediators and moderators of program effectiveness
4)Descriiption of the data collection strategy and why it is appropriate for your evaluation goals and context: (i) Descriiption of the different measures and measurement purposes for different timepoints or elements in the logic model; (ii) Discussion of any reliability concerns; (iii) Discussion of any validity concerns; (iv) Descriiption of all sources of data collection (e.g., surveys, interviews, etc.)
5) Detail the sampling strategy (e.g., probabilistic, purposive, etc.) and why it is appropriate for your evaluation goals and context. Identify how participants are assigned to different conditions/exposures
6) Identify the planned sample size and rationale
7) Detail the data analysis strategy for the type of study design you chose (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods). Include a descriiption of how the data interpretation would guide conclusions and next steps for the program evaluation. What would you plan to do with this information once it is known?
OPTION I – For qualitative projects: coding strategy and/or discourse analysis
Provide an example scriipt and show how it will be analyzed
OPTION II – For quantitative projects: measures of central tendency, measures of variability, measures of association, inferential statistics for tests of differences
Provide a visual display of a predicted trend or effect
OPTION III – For mixed methods projects: identify the integrative analysis strategy (e.g., sequential, complementary, etc.)
Combine the approaches for qualitative and quantitative data analysis above
D. References. Provide an APA-formatted References section. There is no set minimum number of references, but you should cite any research or ideas that are not your own.
E. Appendix. Located after the References section. Include an example of the to-be-constructed data collection materials, such as survey or interview questions.
