Title Page: Title of Subject and Author (you), not part of the 15 pages
Text: Maximum of 15 pages of text including references (not counting the title
page), You must use these six headlines in your paper in this order:
1. Introduction-Epidemiology (who is affected, genetics etc.)- 1 page
2. Pathologic Findings (gross and microscopic pathology)- 1-2 pages
3. Pathogenesis and Pathophysiology- 3-5 pages (need to include basic mechanisms at
cell and tissue level, biggest emphasis of paper, figures useful here!)
4. Clinical Findings/Differential Diagnosis- 1-2 pages
5. Treatments (emphasizing what is new, novel or even controversial)- 1 page
6. References: 12 are mandatory including a minimum of 10 journal articles and 2 internet
references. Review articles are good. Use APA format or see a recent New England Journal of
Medicine review article. You do not need to cite the day you retrieved the article from the
internet (as per APA). Here is an example of a how to cite a research article which has all the
necessary information I am interested in (this is real journal format not APA!):
Weidner N, Semple J, Welch W, Folkman J. Tumor angiogenesis and metastasis-
correlation in invasive breast carcinoma. N. Eng. J. Med. 324:1-8, 1991. Internet citation
also needed. Although this is not APA format, it is a good format to use!
7. One or two textbooks or textbook chapters. Do not cite a reference for every sentence!!
Use
all of your references, not just one or two.
8. Tables, Figures, Photos: (not mandatory, but would be beneficial, especially for photos)
9. The title page does not count in the page total
10. Put Page numbers on paper, page 1 is the first page of your text (not the title page), you do
not have to have a running header

13. Points will not be taken off for formatting issues or whether you use APA reference format or
not. The content of the paper is most important and the way the content is conveyed is
