This week please select one complementary or integrative therapy of interest. Describe the therapy, review qualifications of the therapist that are needed to use the therapy (licensure, certification, etc.) in your state, and positive effects realized from use of the therapy. What diagnostic groups or health issues does the therapy help with (use references for this)? Most importantly and in synchrony with our focus this week, what special precautions are needed due to potential untoward physical or psychological effects? Please think in depth on on this aspect and do some research. You may not be aware of all possible negative effects of a therapy and will have to do a search to find this. As an example I once demonstrated therapeutic touch on a client just for a few seconds to show her that the work is done around the body and no actual touch is involved, and she declared that I invaded her energy field without permission. She made a point to tell me this so it did have an effect on her. I also have had to call 911 for a reaction to an energy therapy and I have had other therapists tell me this as well. I have interviewed countless clients who reported reactions to chiropractic manipulations. Some individuals even feel disjointed when relaxation is induced because they may have not felt relaxed in their entire life and it is a foreign sensation. So give this some deep thought.
