Most studies suggest opposites do not attract as is often depicted in the entertainment world. Research continues to support the contention that similarities rather than complementary personality traits help couples persevere (Ledbetter et al., 2007, Watson et al., 2004, Tidwell et al., 2013, Gonzaga et al., 2007 as cited in Weiten et al., 2018). The Social Exchange Theory suggests that once established the relationship is maintained by certain behaviors depending on whether the couple is in an exchange or communal relationship (Kelly and Thibaut 1978 as cited in Weiten et al., 2018). In other words, social interactions are seen as an exchange in which the participants seek to maximize the individuals’ and the couple’s rewards for staying in the relationship.
Future requirements: The written assignment is underdeveloped, there is no mention of the research presented in this unit (see above), and the response is not in a standard three to five or more paragraph format (introduction, central paragraphs, conclusion). To fully discuss the pertinent concepts, U recommends each undergraduate essay be 350-500 words which is enough to cover the subject and to proviluvde some level of analysis.”
