The study involved looking at pictures of people wearing face masks and sunglasses and participants
categorizing those stimuli by emotion over a short number of trials.The aim is to explore a small number of generic and specific hypotheses about the impact of face
coverings on the processing of facial expression of emotion by children, and to test these hypotheses
using real world secondary data.- About the data (quarantative research using SPSS)data from children (ranging in age from 6 to 11) and adults. I would suggest removing older adults (>45yrs of age) and checking for any participants who were not able to do the task in the uncovered case. So that would be chance performance overall (<0.20 accuracy).You have two sheets in the spreadsheet.The first gives accuracy and reaction time measures for the data collapsed by emotion. You can then explore the one remaining factor (face covering with three levels, natural, glasses, Mask ) as a function of broad age group (adults vs. children). We anticipate a main effect of face covering such that performance is best for uncovered faces, then dips for glasses and is worst for covid masks. We don't expect this to interact much with age grouping.The second sheet is the same participants but only for accuracy and for the emotions independently. This is important as we expect to see interactions here where the effect of cover changes for the different emotions (happy, fears, disgust, anger, sadness) where the critical information changes (happy requires the mouth, fear requires the eyes and so the sunglasses should impact fear processing more than masks do).
