In this scenario you are a school-based counselor. You are an employee of an agency with an office at the school and are not the school counselor.
You are counseling Elisa, a fourteen-year-old girl who has behavioral issues, and who has been diagnosed with oppositional defiance disorder. Elisa is known to have problems with telling the truth and cannot be trusted to be honest. During a counseling session, she shares with your information about a friend of hers who is a tenth-grade student. She indicates that this friend has serious problems and always makes derogatory comments about an algebra teacher and the principal on her personal website. She claims that a page on the site is entitled âWhy Miss Fulmer Should Be Firedâ and lists three reasons: âShe shows off her f__king fat legs.â âThe fat f__k smokes,â and âShe is a bitch.â Under the heading, âWhy Fulmer Should Dieâ is a diagram of Miss Fulmer with her head cut off and blood dripping from her neck and a solicitation to give $20 to help pay for a hitman.
You ask Elisa whether or not she believes that her friend would really hurt Miss Fulmer, and she says, âprobably not.â You ask her if she has told any other adults, and she replies that she has not, and she has only told you because she knows that you cannot tell anyone else as you are her counselor. She says that the web site is not password protected and invites you to visit it if you do not believe her. Elisa tells you that the website carries a disclaimer that required agreement that the visitor was not a member of the school district faculty or administration and that the visitor did not intend to disclose the identity of or cause trouble for the website creator.
