It is helpful for educators to be familiar with a variety of developmental theories to achieve a holistic child and adolescent development. By selecting relevant features from diverse theories, teachers can develop their own eclectic theoretical orientation. A brief overview of three of the five major theorists’ views regarding early adolescent and adolescent development: Piaget, Vygotsky, Skinner, Bandura, and Bronfenbrenner.
Key influences and developmental transitions (levels or phases) that affect early adolescents and adolescents, based on the theories described in the presentation.
A brief examination of the nature versus nurture debate including examples of factors that influence nature and examples of factors that influence nurture.
