Directions
There are three key components to the assessment task.
Identify a media report from 2020-2022 which relates to an aspect of child development, illness or injury that is of public health significance.
The media report can be web based, print media, a transcript from a radio or television program, or a social media posting (e.g. Twitter, Facebook). It must be a factual report or linked to a fact based site â please do not use reports from conspiracy sites or non-reputable news sources. A copy of the media report, a screen shot, or a web link must be provided.
Use existing population level data to describe and explore the topic or issue with a particular focus on future health and resource implications.
Data could be sourced from relevant datasets, government websites, organisations. The key aim is to describe the future health or resource implications associated with this topic or issue. What are the health or financial costs associated with this issue in the future? Depending on the topic or issue chosen, these costs may be positive or negative.
The discussion of the topic or issue should use data to justify the discussion and support the arguments being presented and also be related to age and developmental stage.
Identify and critique evidence-based strategies which could be used to promote or address the chosen issue.
If a negative issue has been identified, what can be done to address it â what evidence is there to support this approach or approaches? If a positive topic or issue has been identified, what can be done to promote this or make it more likely to happen â what evidence is there to support this approach or approaches?
