Requirements
1. Title Page: APA formatting; Integrity Statement and electronic signature on the bottom of the title page: “I have neither given nor received help on this assignment, and pledge this work to be my original composition.”
Please refer to the APA guidelines for the correct format for the title page, reference page, citations, and page numbers.
DO NOT INCLUDE AN ABSTRACT
Synopsis: 4-8 paragraphs – This summary should address the following:
• What was the purpose of the study (research questions, purposes, and hypotheses)?
• How was the sample obtained?
• What inclusion or exclusion criteria were used?
• Who from the sample actually participated or contributed data (demographic or clinical profile and dropout rate)?
• What methods were used to collect data (e.g., sequence, timing, types of data)?
• Was an intervention tested?
• How was the sample size determined?
• Were subjects randomly assigned to treatment groups?
• Were the sample participants similar? Explain. How might similarity impact the study outcome?
• What are the main findings?
• Was this study published in a source that required peer review? How did you determine this?
• What was the study design and was this appropriate to the research question?
• Did the data obtained and the analysis conducted answer the research question?
• What measuring instruments were used and were they reliable and valid? Explain.
• Were important extraneous variables and bias controlled? Why or why not?
• What do you think about the actual sample size that was used in the final data as compared to the number of participants who were contacted? Discuss sample size and the effect that it can have on a research study.
2. Conclusion: 2-3 paragraphs – The conclusion should be your summary of your appraisal. Keep in mind that APA style/format does permit the use of first person in these instances. This summary should answer the following questions:
• What is the level of evidence?
• Are the findings statistically significant? Clinically significant? Explain.
• Could the study be relevant to your practice?
3. Reference Page: Article citation in APA format
Your paper will consist of a title page, the body of the paper which will include the synopsis and conclusion, and a reference page.
