In this weeks discussion we will investigate the role of ethics and the law in nursing education.
Select ONE of the following scenarios and discuss the ethical and legal responsibilities of a nurse educator. What is the appropriate response based on guiding ethical principles? What legal consideration should a nurse educator have?
SCENARIOS:
ONE: In reviewing a graduate students written work you identify they have committed plagarism in several papers.
TWO: A recent graduate is requesting a letter of recommendation from you for a job as a nurse practitioner. You have not taught the student in the clinical arena and have only interacted with the student in non-clinical classes.
THREE: You have a student who continually submits papers late stating that they have had deaths in the family and medical emergencies. In talking with other faculty you learn that this is a consistent phenomenon for this specific student and they submit the vast majority of their work late across the nursing program.
FOUR: A group of students are going to a local restaurant to “have a few drinks” and they have invited you to join them.
