You are required to write a 1,500-word essay (+/- 10%). In addressing the subject, you are expected to demonstrate a critical understanding of the theoretical ideas and concepts explored in the module. Please choose one question:
To what extent is it justifiable to curb human rights in order to prevent terror attacks?
Can the behaviour of terrorists be explained on the same terms as the behaviour of other criminals? Why or why not?
For either essay topic, you are expected include a minimum of two detailed examples of specific terror groups or attacks and analyse these in relation to your essay topic.
These questions are open-ended to allow you to argue in any direction you wish. However, you must explain and support your reasoning based on robust, legitimate source material: eg. peer-reviewed studies, legislation, policy and advisory briefs, reports from reputable news sources.
