How well did the work meet the assessment criteria?
You did an impressive job with the analysis of the media representation of domestic violence.
You explained the authors opinion on the issue but you left out one of the solutions she proposed to the problem; funding stream tantamount to counter terrorism funding. You also did a reasonably good job in the introduction.
Under the legislation and case law section, you appeared to have struggled quite intensely as it quickly emerged you could not decipher what constituted a UK legislation. This became evident when you asserted that one of the legislations you will rely on is the UK Criminal law. There is no legislation as such and criminal law is a branch or type of law in the UK as it is globally.
Also, eventhough you mentioned the DVCVA 2004, you as a result of that titled the balance of the argument from a legislative point to domestic violence instead of domestic abuse as there is a thin line between the two.
In light of that, you should have made use of the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 which addresses the issue comprehensively under the law. You had an opportunity to introduce this Act under your introduction when you defined domestic abuse but you did not.
In addition to the above, you did not feature a case law as it was expected of you and that had a significant effect on the outcome of your work.
Your conclusion was reasonably presented but it reiterated the issue of domestic violence and sparingly had a summary on domestic abuse- that is very understandable because you had partially deviated from the focus in your work.
With regard to your references, there were no case law and legislations mentioned on the list and the online aspect of the referencing needs a skills update.
How could you improve for the future in this type of task?
1. Always support every claim made with a source as there were a good number of areas in your introduction where you allowed this to happen.
2. Understand what constitutes a legislation and distinguish that from branches or types of law.
3. Understand the importance of a UK case law in a unit such as this; familiarise yourself with Westlaw and present with a well analysed case law in your work.
4. Adhere strictly to the topic given to you as it is in the assignment brief and do not attempt to re-word your topic.
5. Seek referencing support from the Study Hub as you struggled with referencing online sources.
6. Always include case law and legislation in your list of references.
