The impact that the Social Security Act of 1935 had on retirement in America could most certainly be viewed as both a negative and positive aspect. Initially the focus of the act was to ensure there was a program designed to pay retired workers 65 years and older a continuing income after they had retired. The three main components of the social security act was to have public assistance, unemployment compensation, and old-age insurance. Initially it was a rather productive and prosperous act, to assist those who have reached a certain age, in order for them to continue to live a healthy and affordable life. The act was created as a uniquely American solution to an ongoing problem that many suffered from after the great depression.
Social Security had an impact on retirement and evolved significantly over the years. I believe that in the beginning stages of this act, it truly was created with the best intentions. However as time progressed, the requirements and process became a little more challenging to work with. In a way, some individuals chose to elect to have an early retirement in order to reap the benefits that the government as to offer, simply because they have reached a certain age. Part of me believes that those who are taking advantage of this resource, is because they truly need it. One shouldn’t live out their entire life working and providing for themselves and their family. At some point in life, you need to sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor. At the same token, there are those who take an unfair advantage of the tools and resources that are available.
The original intentions of the Social Security act was to have a program that would be able to assist those with public assistance, unemployment compensation, and old-age insurance. It was created to have some form of relief and support for those who are no longer in a position to support themselves in the way that they should.
