The topic for your paper is “People and Pandemics.” In your paper, you will compare and
contrast the response of public health professionals, government officials and agencies, businesses, the media, individuals and other parts of societies to pandemics. You should
discuss themes from Get Well Soon, Contagion, World War Z, and contemporary history. Questions to ask yourself in writing your paper include:  Historically how have human beings responded to pandemics? Have we learned from history
or not?
 What do fictional works (such as Contagion and World War Z) teach us about the importance
of public health and societal response to pandemics?
 How has public health been represented throughout the COVID-19 pandemic? Which sectors
of society have responded well to the pandemic (if any) or poorly and why do you think so?
 What do you think will happen in the next pandemic? What recommendations can you give
for dealing with the next pandemic?
Your paper must be a minimum of five double-spaced pages, Times New Roman 12 or
equivalent, one inch margins. In must be in coherent essay form (i.e, write a paper, don’t just
answer the questions above). You must have a thesis statement and support your statement
with sound arguments and at least five citations, including in-text citations. I don’t care
which format you use. Your paper must also have a conclusion. Please use writing mechanics
appropriate to a 300-level college writing class. Your paper should have a good structure and
flow, with correct sentence structure, punctuation, spelling and grammar.
