first person reply:“Because early childhood education settings are often among children’s first communities outside the home, the character of these communities is very influential in children’s development. Through their interactions, children learn how to treat others and how they can expect to be treated” (NAEYC position Statement 15).
Early childhood education settings create the foundation for every child’s life. As a future ECE this is extremely important for me to know and understand. I take this responsibility very seriously. I think that it is important and necessary for me to understand the importance of every child’s educational, emotional, and social needs in their young lives as a future ECE. There are so many ways that I could build my knowledge and understanding concerning what my community has to offer in supporting families.
Some of the ways include active community service within my community. Other ways would include online research and support through organizations such as Moms clubs. Participation and active involvement through a family-oriented club like Moms clubs provides “uplifting supportive conversation for mom and developmental activities for children that emphasize wonder, discover and creativity” (FIT4MOM). Involvement in an organization helps to build and strengthen a person’s knowledge and social involvement within their community which is essential for me as a future ECE.
