Based from the two to three weeks of community assessment and observation. The teaching styles and presentations are dedicated to the way the members of the community have expressed their concerns with regards to their diabetes management. The way they verbalized their own learning needs and being able to express their effective way of learning mechanism has made this preparation easier and more focused on their needs. Effectively sending the message through the teaching styles designed for them can easily make the goals achievable for this teaching project. With the digital technology arising worldwide now, it is important to know how far is their knowledge with digital presentation and if learning is possible with only the use of digital technology.
During this teaching presentation, the plan is to start with a power point presentation with wall projector to the group present in the location and a zoom presentation for those who are unable to make it to the event. Then a presentation pad on a tri pod will be made to enhance the pictures of healthy meal planning and sample nutrition labels so they will be able to learn how to interpret the labels in every processed food that they buy. The focus of this presentation will especially include the signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia for them to realize the importance of identifying early symptoms in order to prevent worst scenario of hypoglycemia or severe hyperglycemia. The audience will also be able to take home a trifold diabetes education brochure in which they can post it in their home refrigerator for reference.
This presentation will include digital and hand out materials to cater the needs of its audience. Since they are also older population, talking to them individually and explaining to them can expedite their learning process rather than presenting the power point. A question and answer portion can also make them engage in the learning process. According to Flauzino et al. (2020), learning status of older population can be considered by their socioeconomic, educational, or economic status. These social determinants of health can also impede their receptiveness of learning as some will think about their financial status while dealing with the food recommendations or they can also worry about doctor visit fees if no insurance are available. The learning opportunities provided to the audience must affect their personal views about the topic and a realization how these teachings can change their quality of life to live functionally independent.

To facilitate effective and successful learning, four types of domains are involved cognitive, affective, psychomotor, and social interaction skills domain (Tones & Green, 2010). The cognitive domain encompasses intellectual skills related to factual information and its application. In the affective domain the focus of learning is on attitudes and values. Emphasis in the psychomotor domain is whereby somebody learns of physical manipulative skills (Bastable, 2013). Perceptual domain is about learning to perceive and extract information from stimuli. Social interaction skills domain addresses the learning that is required for communication, persuasion and influencing others (Tones & Green, 2010). While incorporating the principles of learning that involves assessing the ability of the audience to learn, an evaluation of willingness, accountability of the audience and the provision of a safe learning environment, the teaching or education can begin. Providing education on Obesity in the community makes me proud knowing that it is a task that if effective will bring lifestyle modifications that will change peoples lives.
Most people in the community are able to read and can understand and that is the reason I was able to decide on the materials I will use. The use of pictures of people with different images like obese before and then no obese after application of the education provided can be very encouraging. A comparison fosters understanding of the reality. Pictures of the complications of obesity and pictures of success will make a difference in opinion of the community towards obesity. Use of questionnaires to have feedback of exactly what those who are obese think about themselves. How they feel when they are having difficulties accomplishing certain tasks or struggling a lot to do some tasks. The questionnaire will provide an in depth of whether some eat a lot out of hunger or it is compensatory mechanism to overcome other issues in life. I will then be able to formulate an approach based on such questionnaires. Social media platforms nowadays have become the main channels of communication. One can reach so many people within a very short time. Any message through the social media will reach millions within a click. I will be able to use the platforms like WhatsApp or Facebook to reach many interested people within my community. Due to covid restrictions I plan to use virtual approach teaching method and, in that way, no direct contact. For the questionnaires the audience will be sent via email for me to peruse them. I believe that the methods I chose will be effective based on the community needs. If there are any concerns as far as passing on the information, then I will be able to overcome and strategize again.
