Reflection 1 – Importance of Self-Understanding
Assignment Details (This assignment has 2 parts):
Self-reflection and self-knowledge are essential as you learn to see each client as unique and acknowledge that their background and development is different than your own.
Required Reading for This Assignment:
Read Chapter 1 to learn about many factors that influence human experiences and identity development, including things such as age, socioeconomic status, disability and ability , gender, gender identity and expression, family, sexual orientation, and wealth and privilege.  In Chapter 1 you will also learn ways to recognize how these factors may influence your personal biases and values as you work with clients.  You will find information about stress, demands, and burnout in Chapter 1 on page 22-24.

Think about your culture, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religion and spirituality, life stage, family of origin, abilities, and disability, and stress and demands.

Identify how these influences may impact your future clients.
Part 2:

Identify at least 3 risks of burnout for practitioners and ways to minimize these risks.
Reflect on one or more risks (from among the 3 you are to identify) that you (as a unique individual) may be especially prone to experience in the future as you begin work with clients.
Discuss at least 2 things that you can do to minimize the risks of burnout.  Be specific and incorporate your own personality and preferences.Â
