Purpose and Objective: The objective of this assignment is to analyze mental illness related stigma within the context of personal opinion about the topics explored within the course. By connecting a current event to a course topic, not only does it promote greater exploration of topics of interest, but encourages connections to everyday life. Specifically, by selecting a topic of interest (e.g., post-partum depression, athletes and stress, new treatments for schizophrenia, crisis intervention training, new suicide prevention programming, etc.) and offer ways in which there are intersections in what is happening in the world (e.g., social media, influence culture, legislation, university policies, etc.) and what is learned in the course. The purpose is to become better informed, highlight current stigmas and misrepresentations of mental health, highlight dilemmas, or find positive ways that mental health principles are being portrayed.
