This assignment will evolve into the final paper’s Introduction section. In other words, you are starting to publish your final paper. The completed product will be approximately one page, not including Cover & Reference pages. It is okay to go over a little over one page. It is not about quantity. I am looking for quality content. Are you drawing the reader into your problem? Can you provide them with some insight into the core issue? The assignment is broken down into two parts: Problem Statement & Thesis The Problem Statement: The main purpose of this assignment is to help you familiarize yourself with the topic area that you will be exploring for the rest of the course. In the Problem Statement, you will be providing the reader with the essential information they would need in order to understand the motivation, significance, and justification for your PICOT question. For example, you could include information about the health concern, how common it is, the severity of the condition, how it influences relevant populations, and so on. It should also contain relevant information about the characteristics and needs of your population. Finally, you want to explain the intervention of interest, how it could influence the outcome sought, and what that outcome is. If your PICOT question includes a comparison, please provide information about it. In order to write this, you will need to do a bit of reading and research – dive into the literature! Remember, any information that is not general knowledge should be referenced. I will expect that you will have at least 3 references to accomplish the goals above. The majority of your sources should be original research articles; not reviews. At this point, I am looking for quality of references; not quantity.
