** I did my clinical on a oncology floor/ step-down unit followed the director of nursing on this floor. It is a Research and Evidence Based Practice Practicum course. She performed a quality
improvement project on Hospital Acquired Pressure Injury, which is something that she and I
discussed is an ongoing issue on the Oncology unit, as well as hospital-wide. Throughout her
clinical experience, we discussed how evidence-based practice and quality improvement are
incorporated into staff education, and we discussed the role of leaders to ensure that staff are
utilizing best practices. We audited patient charts and reviewed policies, as well as rounded on
the nursing units to observe compliance. We inspected proper utilization of fall precautions,
isolation practices, and compliance with Joint Commission/MS standards. She also observed
our daily safety call, and participated in the discussion of safety events that occurred. In addition,
she observed the many other responsibilities of a Unit Director, including payroll, scheduling,
interviewing potential candidates, and other hospital priorities such as hospital throughput and
budgeting.
These are the days and hours spent precepting, for a total of 45 hours.

Practicum Objectives:
Participate in designing or evaluating quality improvement studies and discuss the use of patient data using research findings, EBP guidelines, and a variety of systematic processes to compare expected and achieved outcomes of care.
Consider the process for providing safe effective nursing interventions using current research findings and evidence-based practice outcomes.
Analyze clinical decision making through inquiry and a systematic process, considering ramifications of proposed actions.
Analyze the BSN role in maintaining patient safety and improving the quality of care.
Directions: Complete a direct care activities log for each day that you are at your practicum site. You should submit a minimum of four logs.
Writing Requirements:
Use the template provided to complete the logs.
Answer the questions using complete sentences.
The logs will count as a written assignment and must be written using proper spelling, grammar, and writing mechanics.
You may use first person.
If you include references, please cite them using APA Style.
The logs must be typed, no handwritten logs will be accepted.
Your logs must add up to 1200 words, for example if you are submitting four logs for the four days you completed practicum hours, each log should be at least 300 words. If you completed your practicum in six days, the six logs may be a minimum of 200 words each.
The logs may be turned in when you have completed the practicum hours or by December 2, 2022 at the latest.
