Disaster management and preparedness on mass casualty incidents among prehospital care workers: a systematic review
Research summary
Preparedness is the most successful method to disaster risk management, and it is critical for emergency medical service (EMS) providers including paramedics, emergency nurses and physicians.
This study will examine the readiness of emergency medical service providers in crises and catastrophes and the effectiveness of treatments and interventions offered to first responders to prevent and treat the mental health impacts of disaster response using peer-reviewed literature published between 2005 and 2022. It will also examine the important elements of EMS providers’ disaster readiness and ideas for improving their preparedness. Identifying the important elements of disaster readiness is the first step in planning and developing effective instruments to assess EMS providers’ disaster preparedness and implementing relevant initiatives to improve their preparedness. This study will be the first systematic review attempt to fill that void.
