Kesha is depressed as she is experiencing separation. As Kesha navigates this new change, she is probably dealing with the idea of intimacy versus isolation. Erik Erikson refers to this stage during early adulthood between approximately 19-40 (Wong et al., 2015). According to Wong, Hall & Hernandez (2018), the developmental crisis she is experiencing is losing her loving relationship with her husband (Wong p.27). The client’s sense of stability and identity is threatened, and as a result, she is expressing depression symptoms.
Kesha is going through a transitional period in life. The relationship she thought would last forever with Tommy and the privilege she would have had with raising her son is no longer available. Life transitions are defined as major developmental tasks during which “roles are transformed, redefined, or left behind for new ones” (Wong et al., 2015). Kesha would need a mental health counselor, and Psychologists could prove to be helpful to Kesha.
