(Orlando) The StrengthsFinder assessment is a tool that helps people discover and capitalize on their specific strengths and talents. The assessment determines a person’s top five signature themes of talent or the areas in which they naturally thrive. My top five signature themes of talent, according to the findings of my StrengthsFinder assessment, are belief, positivism, individualization, developer, and context.
Belief is the power that comes from having strong beliefs and being motivated by a feeling of purpose. Those who have a strong sense of belief are frequently extremely driven and tenacious, and their conviction and enthusiasm often inspire others. Positivity is the ability to keep an optimistic mindset and perceive the good in events and people. Positive people are optimistic, hopeful, and resilient, and they often bring a sense of cheer and enthusiasm to their job and relationships. Individualization is the ability to recognize the unique characteristics of each individual and customize one’s approach to their requirements. Individuals with a high level of individualization are good at forming connections, understanding people, and adjusting to new conditions.
The ability to perceive potential in others and assist them in growing and realizing that potential is the strength of a developer. Those with a high level of developer are competent in coaching, mentoring, and teaching and often like assisting others in achieving their objectives. Moreover, context is the ability to comprehend the greater context in which events and circumstances occur and use that comprehension to make sound judgments. Those with a high level of context are analytical, strategic, and perceptive and often excel at problem resolution.
According to the results of my StrengthsFinder assessment, two of my core values may be a commitment to personal growth and a desire to make a positive impact on others. Two strengths that I would want to improve are my ability to effectively communicate my beliefs and my ability to build strong relationships with others. Further, based on the StrengthsFinder assessment, two characteristics that I would want to improve are my capacity to remain calm and focused under pressure and my ability to adapt and be flexible in changing circumstances.
Overall, the StrengthsFinder assessment has assisted me in better understanding my inherent abilities and strengths, as well as providing vital insights into how I may utilize those qualities to accomplish my objectives and have a good effect on the world. I was able to reflect on my strengths, values, and qualities as a result of the assessment and identify areas where I may improve. The assessment and reflection will help me to build and enhance my leadership skills.
Discussion 2 ( Stacey )
The Clifton Strengths Finder is a psychometric assessment tool used to measure cognitive formation and function, or one’s natural abilities setting them apart from everyone else (Gallup & Inc., 2021). People that have used this assessment tool to learn their strengths learn that their top five outcomes do not typically change over time. Once an individuals strengths are identified and understood, it is reported that the individual works better with others, accomplish more goals and lives a happier life (Gallup & Inc., 2021).
My Signature Themes report presented my five most dominant themes of talent, in the rank order, as Individualization, Learner, Responsibility, Discipline and Analytical.
Individualization identifies the individuals intrigued with the unique qualities of each person. They have a gift for figuring out how different people can work together productively.
Learner identifies the individuals with great desire to learn and want to continuously improve and enjoy the process of learning over the outcomes.
Responsibility identifies the individuals with a sense of “rightness” as a quality to commit strongly, and includes those that are conscientious, dedicated, and focused on doing the right things and doing things right. This is a core value of mine that I like most about myself. I have worked hard to do what’s right, even when it hurts.
Discipline identifies the individuals that need control, is task oriented, makes things happen and those that need a world that is ordered, planned, structured, and ultimately predictable. This is also a core value of mine within most everything I do.
Analytical identifies the individual that searches for reasons and causes, they absorb and analyze information that informs better decisions.
I feel like my results were a little hard to accept. I have always felt in the back of my mind I come across as tough, a black and white thinker, and oftentimes unapproachable, and feel like these results reiterated that. I do feel my strengths work best in the emergency room setting, and since I have always been an emergency room nurse, it has likely solidified these into my permanent working behavior. I will work on my approach and try to adapt new behaviors, such has Relator and Empathy, so that I am a more well-rounded and approachable provider, a necessary trait of a successful APRN (Broome & Marshall, 2020). I believe the Learner and Individualization qualities within me will benefit me as an APRN, as I will continue my growth and development as a provider and easily identify the needs and ways of learning of my patient.
