We are now in the part of the course where we cover late adulthood and death. Review Erik Erikson’s Eight Stages paying careful attention to the eighth stage which is “Ego Integrity versus Despair.” This stage applies to later adulthood, and says that people tend to take an inventory of their lives and reflect on their life when they are approaching the end of it. Success in this stage means that a person feels good overall about how they spent their life. Failure in this stage is represented by someone approaching the end of their life with a lot of remorse and regret, and not enough time to make things right. That is obviously not where a person wants to end up later on in life. Therefore, it is well worth taking some time to consider what types of actions and planning are most likely to lead to happinees and contentment (Ego Integrity) at the end of life. Write a 2 page paper on how you plan to have success in this stage by feeling good about how you spent your life (Ego Integrity) rather than failure in this stage (Despair). Write about ways in which you can spend your life that will lead to satisfaction at the end, rather than regret. This assignment does not require a title page.
