Re-familiarize yourself with 1st and 2nd generation antipsychotic medications including:
Understanding the mechanism of action and differences between the two i.e., 5HT2A antagonism with 2nd generation. Specifically focusing on dopamine and acetylcholine and implications for EPS.
Understanding different types of EPS (including TD) and related treatment(s).
Understanding other adverse effects of 1st and 2nd generation meds including H1, A1, M1 antagonism and other effects. Note: Clozapine is a good prototypical for understanding the various positive and adverse effects.
Continue to refamiliarize yourself with Lithium:
Required lab-work i.e., electrolytes, kidney functioning, thyroid.
Serum lithium levels (normal, early, and severe toxicity).
Signs and symptoms of “normal”, early toxicity, and severe toxicity.
