Developmental Surveillance, Screening, and Anticipatory Guidance
This unit’s discussion will focus on sharing experiences that you have encountered so far in your pediatric clinical rotation pertaining to the incorporation of developmental surveillance, screening, and anticipatory guidance in child well-visits and sick visits.
During this rotation the milestone checklist​‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌​ and MCHAT (modified checklist for Autism in toddlers) screening tool was one of the most used tools. During a routine well child visit or a sick visit the preceptor also taught us to always ask about parents’ concerns, obtaining a developmental history, observe the child, identifying risk and protective factors, documenting the findings and sharing information with early childhood professionals in order to catch any developmental issue e​‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌​arly.
