The article, “Its Time For Police Officers To Start Demanding Gun Laws That Could End Up Saving Their Own Lives,” by Robert Wilson consisted of a strong voice from the author on the topic of stricter gun control for law enforcers. The writer projects a strong stance that police officers have the right to protect their own safety. The author explained numerous gun control acts and bans that have expired throughout the years because officials were not pushing the needed protection. He included the Sandy Hook massacre where President Obama attempted to ban assault weapons but it failed to pass in 2013. Wilson listed actions that could be taken to tighten laws such as closing background loophole checks, making it harder for people with mental illness to buy guns and restoring the ban on some automatic weapons. I do not think the author used logical fallacy when presenting his argument. The form of reading matches the form of writing because Wilson addressed his argumentative point with examples from historical evidence written clearly and easily understood. This reflects what we are learning in our argumentative essay research.
The quality of life from a natural environment with access to forests, rivers, and lakes has a host of health benefits as apposed to the detrimental affects that results from living an urban lifestyle. Surrounding yourself in nature has proven physical health benefits from reducing inflammation and boosting your immune system which results in decreasing the risk of certain diseases and cancer. Walking in a park improves heart health, circulation, and keeps your blood pressure down. More interestingly, is individuals are more likely to repeat an activity, such as walking, when performed in a natural environment. It is understandable that given the calming affects nature has to offer, it has been linked to improving attention, lowering stress, improving mood, and reducing the risk of psychiatric disorders. On the other end of the spectrum urban environments are linked to attention deficit and have negative affects on brain developing and functioning. Living in an urban environment lacks the space needed for physical activity and clean air which can improve your physical well being and enhance your mental health. These positive health outcomes that stem from a natural environment prove beneficial for overall health which explains why urban lifestyle suffers the consequences.
