It is important for us to be aware of the events that are going on around us locally and nationally that influence public health policy and health outcomes.
For the assignment, identify one relevant topic in the news, media, and/or peer reviewed articles. The focus must be something that has recently occurred and influences health outcomes or health policies.
***The article you choose must have been published within the last 4 months and be a minimum of five paragraphs (25-30 sentences.)
You may choose your articles from a number of sources. They may come from newspapers (News and Observer, USA Today, etc.), weekly newsmagazines such as Time, history magazines or professional news or journal article sources located on the internet or in the Pfau Library database.
For each current event assignment, write a 350-500-word summary (size 12 font) that discusses the topic, its significance to public health, and possible interventions or solutions.
********Your summary should be written in the following format:
One full page (single-spaced) or two full pages (double-spaced) with:
a. Article Title: Write the title at the top of your page.
b. Summary: Write a summary paragraph, in your own words, about the article. You cannot copy verbatim from the article. This is plagiarism. Doing so will result in a grade of “0.” Only two quotes may be used in your summary.
c. Significance: Discuss why you chose the article and how it is important to public health. Think about who this event impacts and how. Explain why it is significant and be sure to provide your own opinion about the topic.
d. Two Questions: You will need to include (2) relevant questions about the article (these are questions you would like answered or address during class discussion).

f. Summaries and articles used to write your summaries will be submitted on Blackboard via an assignment link in two attachments (one will be the summary and the other will be a pdf copy of the article you used to write your summary).
