Investigate sex differences in emotion regulation, by collecting data using a previously published questionnaire for which hypotheses will be required (questionnaire already administered and collected the data) Additionally determine whether two facets of emotion regulation ( cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression) are related, i.e., correlated. For which no hypothesis will be required. Prepare a lab report summarising your findings, the format of which will mirror the format of a standard journal article. Data analysis from questionnaire will soon be available by tutor. Once available import the data into jamovi software and write up results as a standard lab report. RESEARCH QUESTIONS: Is there a sex difference in emotion regulation and are the two facets correlated? You will hence need to perform two t-tests to determine if a difference exists (one for cognitive reappraisal and one for expressive suppression)-consider the data and the hypotheses and select the appropriate test e.g., paired, independent, etc.. and implement this in the appropriate way. It would also be useful to obtain effect sizes to include in your report. Next a correlation needs to be performed on the data obtained for the two facets; you should report Pearson’s r and state the association p-value. (You should not need a hypothesis for the correlation) Report word limit- 1400 words this excludes: the title page, the abstract and references section (and any figures and accompanying captions). Report structure- include the following sections and sub-sections in the same order as stated below •title page-the report title word count •abstract-short summary on the entire study, start with aim and summarize with final conclusion. •introduction-includes aims and hypotheses of study and cite the most relevant journal articles to the research question e.g what has been done before? The aim is to give the reader some background info on the topic under investigation. It moves from general to the specific topically, by the end of evaluation of current knowledge and theory it should be obvious what you are going to examine. End with your hypotheses (alternative and null) •method-this will contain the following sub-sections in given order: -participants (how many, age, (mean and range), male female (I will provide this once I get the data from the rest of the group in my class.) -design (underlying design method e.g. experiment or survey etc..) variables (independent, dependent- the measures) -materials (all stimuli and documentation) (reliability and validity of scales used, scoring -procedure (what the participants did-usual to put ethical comments here.) -results (present you data first: descriptive statistics and then include the outcome of your statistical analyses e.g., t-test: t(32)=-4.23, p<.05 (2-tailed) and correlation: r(120)=0.32, p<.001. All reported statistics should be given in APA format. An appropriate graphical visualization of numeric data should be included e.g. bar chart showing male and females scores and a scatter plot of correlation data; and a table) •discussion (discuss the strengths and weaknesses of study) •conclusion •references (will have referred to other studies e.g. in intro, please cite all of these references in final section. Have to acknowledge the work or the ideas of others to avoid plagiarism) (APA style) (When figures are used label- Fig. 1 etc..,)
