Discussion Question 1:
We learned this week of the steps that the U.S Public Health System has taken over the last three decades to adopt and institutionalize the CQI methods and tools. Let’s explore an example of a success story that shows that their efforts are starting to pay off.
1. Please read the Case Study: Institutionalization of Continuous Quality Improvement, Chapter 11, pages 278 and 279 in your text.
2. What do you think are the most important two steps that the Macon County Health Agency took to implement CQI into the daily work lives of their staff and physicians?
3. If this success story had been in place throughout the U.S. public health care system, how might this have affected the outcome of the public health system’s response to the current Pandemic?
4. Describe how you might use one of these steps in your work as a health care leader.
Discussion Question 2:
The use of CQI tools and methods has been both successful and challenging in low- and middle-income countries. A number of CQI methods, tools and approaches were described in Chapter 13.
1. Based on your learnings up to now, what do you think are the best CQI tools for use in low- and middle-income countries?
2. Explain why you made this choice and why you think they could be successful.
3. How might the use of the tools you chose have made a different to the response in low- and middle-income countries related to how they handled the Global Pandemic?
