I am a Saudi board certificated psychiatrist wishing to apply for the Addiction fellowship program,
I want a personal statement with these points
1-First of all, to explain addiction in general as looking to it as brain disease
2-Case that attracted me to addiction my first case in my rotation as R2 resident in psychiatry program is (Sarah 17 years who was admitted to an Addiction inpatient ward as she uses pregabalin regularly and with another sedative (Alcohol and ALPRAZOLAM ) with co-morbid SEVER social anxiety disorder), I was so excited to understand her in a biopsychosocial approach her she is the first child with multiple family conflicts, the father is conservative abusing her physically as a child and poor caring mother that let her drop from school and leaving home as she starts to use substances. With the support of her friend, she came by herself to the hospital welling to start treating her addiction. During her hospital stay, we try to reach her mother with help of a social worker and frequent family interventions, we were able to reintroduce family in her life).
3- I am very interested in addiction in both knowledge and practice, I believe myself as, a nonjudgmental person and a very hard worker, I am always willing usually to learn, to care, and to teach.
4-Then addiction services in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia limited, a high number of patients but very limited specialized psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers and only one government inpatient service. The ministry of heaths vision is to increase attention to those people and to increase services availability, I am interested to be part of change willing to improve patient care and services and to teach others.
I found these points may help in writing my personal statement, I don’t mind if these points are written in a different order or as writer’s opinion of the best personal statement ( I want them to read words that easy understandably and like my own words )
