Hi, this is a journal assignment which should consist of my cultural background and personal experiences. I grew up in Southern Louisiana so you can research Southern Louisana Culture. Growing up as an African American in this culture we indulged in good food but high in fat and sodium which caused health problems like heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, obesity, and diabetes. We also indulged in alcohol. Majority of African Americans in Southern Louisiana don’t believe in eating healthy foods or going to the doctor for annual checkups because of ignorance and because of not having insurance. I lost a lot of family members due to not knowing. In this journal assigment you will answer what will a healthcare provider would need to know about me and my culture in order to provide Culturally Competent Healthcare. Consider issues such as my ethnicity, religion, ect. Critical elements to address are personal experience and Connections to Culturally Competent Healthcare. I will provide journal rubric.
