Health policy advocacy as a nurse can be conducted on a number of levels through four main spheres of influence (the workplace, the government, the community, and associations/interest groups). As a future advanced practice nurse (APN) you must understand your role in advocating for your profession. Given the ever-changing healthcare environment and the implementation of the IOM (now known as NAM) report on the Future of Nursing (reviewed this week as part of your assigned reading) answer the following question for this week’s discussion.
Question:
Discuss ONE recommendation of the IOM (Institute of Medicine) Future Initiative of Nursing Report that as an APN (Advanced Practice Nurse) you think is the most important to advocate for implementing.
State why you think the recommendation you choose is the most important to the nursing profession and what sphere of influence you would use. Defend your choices. Remember to cite literature and other resources to support your perspective.
