Final paper: 1. Title and abstract. The abstract summarizes the project. It should be between 150 words (min) to 250 words (max). (analyzing goal pursuit through the dynamic network theory: write my goal)
2. Background and introduction. Please provide a brief background of your goal and why it’s important to you (and
possibly others). Then, discuss how this project will create a network intervention to pursue the goal, based on
parameters in dynamic network theory (e.g., attempting to increase your goal striving, acquiring additional system
supporter linkages, and attempting to mitigate unconstructive network resistance or de-affirmation forces where
relevant).1 Also discuss how dynamic network theory will be used as a framework to theoretically evaluate the
results from the intervention by comparing pre-intervention dynamic network charts to a post-intervention dynamic
network charts, which are automatically provided to you through the dynamic network labs programming from the
Qualtrics surveys. Additional references should also be included, such as 3 to 5 new ones; these would be
illustrating important research or background information about the goal or behavioral pursuit. The intro could be
between 2 to 4 pages. Provide at least one to two pages of references.
3. Method. For this section, be sure to indicate that the study will use a participant observation methodology. This
basically means that you are heavily involved in the system that you are observing. Also, indicate that dynamic
network charts will be used in your analysis to examine progress on your goal from time 1 to time 2. Please provide
a brief descriiption of the charting methodology in your write up (one page should suffice), such as what the different
roles are in the theory and how square indicate social actors and circles denote the goals (or sub-goals).
4. Results. The following sections are often helpful:
(a) Pre-intervention assessment. Results from this assessment evaluates the initial state of affairs concerning the
social network involved with your goal prior to the intervention (e.g., who were your system supporters in your goal
pursuit, if any, etc.?). This assessment represents how much you and your network was involved in your goal at the
beginning of the semester (i.e., the first week or two of the semester, prior to engaging in your intervention).
System-level metrics are shown as well, such as the network affirmation ratio and degree to which the overall goal is
achieved on a likert scale (1 = no progress, 2 = slightly progress, 3 = some progress, 4 = progress, 5 = goal
achievement. In your charts, paper, and presentation, Dr. Jim will provide you with results that mask the entities,
while you will also have your own master results that show the actor’s names (e.g., friends and coworkers).
(b)Final intervention assessment. The portion part of the results section shows the results from your network
intervention as assessed near the end of the semester. In this evaluation, you will be examining whether or not your
planned intervention resulted in the planned changes, or if other changes were seen, such as the addition of other
entities (e.g., new system supporters), changing of roles (e.g., a person showing more system supporting or less
system negating or your increasing the intensity of your goal striving), or the elimination of some roles (e.g.,
mitigating another person’s goal prevention).
Also, be sure to explicitly compare the results of your pre-intervention data to post-intervention data. Discuss major
changes in the system (e.g., the inclusion of actor X made a large impact in the system because Y). Be sure to
compare your overall pre-intervention goal achievement score on the 5 point likert scale above to your post intervention goal achievement score on the same likert scale (i.e., was progress made on the overall goal / to what
extent was the goal achieved?).
1 In other words, as the semester matriculates, you will be intervening in your network to further achieve your goal. This is
referred to as your network intervention. Once your goal is selected, you should get started right away on planning a well thought
plan to achieve your goal. Do not wait long to get started. Then, strive in earnest to achieve it. Besides improving or
intensifying your own goal striving, you will be working on building a strong network to assist, in line with what you learn in
class (or attempting to constructively alleviate network resistance or network de-affirmation). In terms of the intervention,
describe how you attempted to utilize yourself and your social network to help achieve your goal, including a discussion of the
roles that you tried to change (e.g., perhaps more intense personal G from yourself, your solicitation of more S from another new
supporter, your efforts at eliminating P from another, or how you’re trying to be more constructive with others if conflicts arise,
etc).
5. Conclusion/Discussion. Summarize major findings from the intervention project. Also, discuss what you could
have done better as well as your next steps in pursuing this goal or what major goals you plan to pursue next.
6. Supplemental material and learnings. Please include, references, figures, and tables as needed. Lastly, on a final
page, please write one short paragraph (no more than ¼ to ½ of a page, single spaced) about something important you learned in this course.
Additional notes about papers:
● Overall length and format. The length of the paper is 8-10 pages (12 point Times Roman; 1 inch margins). These
page limits do NOT include the title page, abstract, figures, tables, and references. Please use APA format.
● Writing criteria. Papers will be graded to the extent to which they properly apply relevant concepts from class
readings. In addition, grades will be assessed on the degree to which the papers are (1) well organized and logically
structured, (2) informative with supportive evidence, (3) clear and coherent with good transitions, (4) well written
with good flow and without awkward sentences, (5) free of grammatical errors or typos, (6) tightly constructed
without superfluous wording or wordiness, and (7) thought provoking/engaging. Excellent paper are also ones
that effectively integrate relevant concepts from the readings over the semester as it applies to you network
goal analysis. Hence, it is important to do the readings so that you’ll be able to apply relevant knowledgeable in the
paper. For example, grading would not be maximized if you failed to discuss an important/relevant concept from
the readings. The readings are important because there is not enough time in class to cover all the concepts and this
material.

(Hi there, writer! I took a survey before my intervention and then again by the near completion of my intervention/goal. The paper is revolved around the survey results that I need to email to you so you can see it and apply all of it in the paper. My professor wants the graphs and results to be included in the paper. Please lmk which email to send it to. Also, for the introduction and background, I wrote down on a word document why my intervention was important to me and why it could potentially be important to others. You may use it and expand on it or add. Iv’e attached it in the files here. Also, the tile of the paper could be: Analyzing goal pursuit through the dynamic network theory: Go to the gym twice a week and lose ten pounds.
Please reach out to me with any questions Or if you would like for me to send you readings.
