Overview Just as recent years have seen an explosion of initiatives to improve the international humanitarian architecture, there has been a lot of movement on the issue of national disaster management capacity building. Whether this momentum will continue at the same pace is unknown, but what is clear is that the stages of the disaster cycle are priority areas of investment for governments around the world. This section examines, in brief, internationally agreed targets for improving disaster management capacity as well as common approaches to support nations in achieving these targets. The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and other related post-2015 initiatives are some of the biggest drivers in this arena but are by no means the only forces propelling change. The information below skims the surface of this topic. Tapping into your own background in public health and if applicable disaster management may help you to view this topic from the perspective of another country receiving capacity building.
