Design a research project to address the following chosen question: Are auditory brainstem responses more reliable when sounds are presented to both ears instead of just one?
Note that the question may be, and can be restricted to more precise research questions.
Describe the research project you have designed and discuss the reasoning for the choices that you have made, providing justification for your chosen methods. Your assignment should be split into the following sections:
Introduction (500 words; 10 marks):
Introduce your chosen research area, critically appraising previous research and describing the gap in the current evidence base.
Methods (1000 words; 18 marks):
Describe and justify your research design. You should include information about:
– Participants: How will participants be identified and recruited? What are the
principal inclusion and exclusion criteria for the study? How many participants will be included?
– Procedures: Give details of what data will be collected, and how data collection will occur. You should give enough information for your project to be carried out, but experimental details are not required (for example, you do not need to give information about the exact models of equipment that will be used).
Plan of analysis (700 words; 14 marks):
Discuss and justify your methods of data analysis, including the statistical tests that you would use.
Discuss how the results of the analysis would be interpreted in relation to your research question. Provide an interpretation of the possible outcomes.
Ethical issues: (300 words; 10 marks):
Outline the main ethical issues associated with your research design and discuss how these would be addressed.
