CURRENT EVENTS PAPER ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
Overview
Crises happen every day. Some get noticed more than others. From local to national to global disasters, crisis responders can be called in at a moment’s notice. Having the knowledge of how to alleviate a crisis, the coping skills necessary, and the steps for building resiliency are critical to showing up well for shocked individuals. Seeing a current crisis or disaster through the lens of a crisis responder, locally or nationally, allows us to know how we can show up to alleviate the crisis and bring equilibrium to the individual.
Instructions
You will follow the weekly news for the first weeks of this course looking for a situation in which you will hypothetically respond as a crisis interventionist. For instance, it may be a news story of a bank robbery and you are called to debrief the bank teller and witnesses, or perhaps a house fire where a local family lost all of their belongings and you are called to meet with them.
? You will complete a 750–1000-word review
? Your Current Events Paper Assignment should include a title page and reference page and be written in current APA format.
? Your Current Events Paper Assignment will cover four primary sections
? Explore the nature of the crisis presented;
? Suggest steps for alleviating the crisis;
? Teach coping skills; and
? Help the victim(s) develop resiliency.
? You must include at least 1 citation of the textbook and at least 1 citation from an outside scholarly source. Peer-reviewed articles count as scholarly sources. Websites do not count.
? Sources should be within 5 years.
