Community/Public Health Issue Reported by a Recent Newspaper / Magazine Article & Evidence-Based PAPER (15 pts)
You will explore the way the media reports health issues and the influence it has on the public. Each paper will demonstrate the learnersâ understanding of the identified health care related issue and a statement of how the problem or issue affects or is affected by community-oriented/public health nursing care.
Each learner will find an article that addresses a public/community health-related issue from a printed source that a lay-person would read that is found in a magazine or newspaper. (you may use an online source if there is a printed source available.) The learner will write a three-page paper [no more than 3 pages, no more than 800 words] having a title and references pages, should be formatted on its own page and not in the body of the paper, covering the following:

The newspaper/magazine article must come from a print source; an article found on the internet must have a corresponding printed source.
The article must have been published within the last 3 months.
Article from a news source that the lay public will read about a public health issue.
The paper must include:
The article summary and reason for selecting the issue with the title and source of the article included.
One to two sentences stating your stance on the topic either for or against it. You must specifically state âThe student nurse agrees…â or âThe student nurse disagreesâ (third person)
One to two paragraphs (no more than 7 sentences in each paragraph) supporting your position. Each paragraph must be supported by at least two sources (e.g., CDC, WHO, or a journal article).
One paragraph about the role of the PHN in relationship to the topic.
There should be at least 2 sources:
One must be from a peer-reviewed journal and
The others can be from a reputable website (e.g., CDC, WHO, NIH, ACS, or other reputable websites).
Other references can be from the same as above or another source.
The assignment submission must include a PDF of the article (copy the article to your written paper, after the reference list. Assignments turned in without the PDF of the news article will receive a zero.
This is a professional paper that must be formatted, cited (using at least 2 sources) and have a reference list that follows APA [7th ed.] guidelines. Do not write this paper in the first person, instead it must be written in the third person, e.g., âI, me, my, weâ cannot be used, instead you say âthe student nurse, the author, the writerâ to describe yourself. The title and reference pages do not towards the required max (no more than) 800-word count.
