It was developed by psychologist Albert Ellis and used to control and change negative thoughts, which oftentimes can lead to damaging behaviors.
Public speaking is one of the most commonly reported fears. For this exercise, use the thought tracking handout. Actions to list 2-3 automatic thoughts associated with being asked to give a presentation in front of the class. Next, brainstorm therapeutic âchallengesâ to these thoughts as well as more functional coping thoughts. The example below is based on another commonly reported worry thought reported by students, test-taking.
