Clinical story background: patient Male, mid 30’s, African American
Develop health difficulties (COPD) due to unhealthy habits such as smoking, physical inactivity, and binge drinking. Have history of hypertension and obesity. Patient was unaware of the detrimental health consequences of his actions and his health was deteriorating. Patient have limited health literacy.
Clinical setting: med-surg unit, INOVA hospital.
Family: Spouse, biological mother are concern about the patient’s health and well being. Brought patient to the ER for shortness of breath where patient was diagnosed with COPD and transfer to the med-surg unit.
