Chapter 13: Getting a Job with Your Bachelor’s Degree
Welcome to the final week of the Research Discussion. I’m changing things a little for this discussion. Instead of having you focused on journal articles, I want to focus you on a question that may arise during an interview: What is the latest book you’ve read in your discipline? Tell me about it.
Students should focus on recent general population books (within the last 10 years) presented in journals or books. The sources selected should not be duplicated, so it is advised that students review the discussion thread before they post their topic response.
This may seem like a deceptively simple question, yet it reveals a lot about your current engagement and enthusiasm in your discipline. Your response to this question in an interview should be quick and passionate revealing that you love your discipline and you are excited to share your latest book. If you don’t have a current read, GET ONE!
Each student will have a main response composed of three parts.
The first part is a brief summary of your current popular book in the discipline. This part gives you practice on writing descriptions/ summarizing information.
The second part is an explanation of WHY. Why did you pick this book and how its topic can be applied? How can the information in the selection be applied to real-life problems/ situations?
