PREVIOUS POST FOR REFERENCE
As an African American, we value having a close family unit, not necessarily blood relatives but the people who are close to us and are involved in our day-to-day lives. Most African Americans prefer using agricultural products to make their food. English is the main language however, most African Americans are known for the slang language which is a combination of the English language and other languages. Most practices are passed down to the younger generation through stories, and it is a tradition that the young respect the old and take care of them when they can no longer do so. Slavery is the major contribution to the emergence of African Americans and due to this many black people suffer discrimination from the white people because they are considered inferior; however, over time this community has learned to fight for their rights.
The value of family has helped me have self-esteem and be able to plan goals that are achievable because I know there are people to support and cheer me on. The struggles of the black community push me to be better and make the world a better place for the future generation. Culture, ethnicity, and race have always been used interchangeably by many people however, they are different aspects. Ethnicity is a group of people who have a culture, come from a particular geographical area, and have a common language; culture is a characteristic of an ethnic group. On the other hand, race is mostly used for groups with common physical characteristics such as; skin color. Recently psychologists have termed race as a group of people with similar social characteristics but could fall back to physical appearance.
CURRENT ASSIGNMENT
Kohlbergâs theory of morality specifically outlined three unique, yet general stages people progress through as they develop moral reasoning. Some aspects of Kohlbergâs theory are considered universal while other aspects may demonstrate a cultural acceptance of a certain group of people within a certain region of the world. As a result, some cross-cultural studies (identified in your text) have surmised that culture (the dominant or subdominant aspects of the culture) influences moral reasoning. Please describe how your culture influences the ideas of moral reasoning. Specifically, share with us what you and those that subscribe to your culture should or shouldnât do to maintain the moral standards outlined by your culture. Furthermore, please explain how you have come to accept or challenge those ideas and offer rationale as to how you developed your unique moral compass. Please do not respond by using bullet points, utilize complete sentences to respond to this prompt, and be sure to cite your sources.
