Assignment Overview: This assignment is designed to make certain that you have sufficient research evidence
specific to your PICOT question to serve as a foundation for an evidence-based practice recommendation. You have
already written your PICOT question and had it approved by your instructor. This assignment includes that PICOT
question along with your operational definitions of the population or problem, intervention, comparison, outcome,
and timing.
The sources should include six full study write-ups that provide evidence specific to your PICOT question. You
should include either six primary sources, or if available, you may include one meta-analysis in place of one primary
source. Narrative reviews, integrative reviews, topic overviews, abstracts and posters are not full study write-ups. You
will also develop a visual representation of your search strategy, depicting the databases searched; terms,
combinations, and limiters used; the yield from your search, the grand total and type from all searches, and the process
employed for inclusion and exclusion of articles to comprise your final body of evidence. The primary focus of this
assignment should be on introducing your PICOT question in paragraph format and gathering current, quality
evidence from a position of equipoise, which is applicable to incorporating a practice change or affirming an existing
clinical practice, the presentation of evidence in the form of a reference list, and the search strategy in the form of a
figure.
Include a title page that adheres to APA 7
th edition format and style for Student Papers and written in the third person
(so no I, me, we, us). On the page that follows begin with an introduction of your topic, and then your PICOT
question should be introduced and discussed. This should not only include your PICOT question, but also should
provide thorough descriiptions of your population, intervention, comparison intervention, outcome, and timing. This
section essentially contains your operational definitions of the variables in the question. If you use definitions from
the literature, be sure to cite them. The Reference page should then follow and must be in APA 7
th edition format. The
search strategy figure should follow the reference page and should be labeled and titled according to APA 7
th edition.
