Think about an issue you have seen in an organisation you have worked in. This can be any organisational issue .Examples could be:
A managerial process, such as work allocation, supervisory mechanisms, disciplinary process, management of change, introducing a new way of working recruitment & retention issues, management of a critical incident , team working or managing a team. This list is not exhaustive, there may be other issues that you may want to look at. Whatever you pick ensure that you will be able to meet the learning outcomes of the module.
You have 20 minutes , so work out how long you will speak for each slide , this will determine the amount of slides you use . Try not to make the slides to busy , you have space in your notes to provide additional critical analysis .
Introduction – slides 1-2
In this section introduce the issue you are going to examine and it is important from a leadership and management perspective. What topics within your issue are you going to explore bearing in mind you must meet the learning outcomes. ? Don’t forget to put your critical analysis in the notes pages.
Main body of assignment
In this section you need to critically analyse your issue , ensure you use good academic journals to support your arguments.
Try to make sure the presentation flows
Consider. What sort of organisation are you looking at, is it big small or small , a charity a government funded organisation etc., How is it managed, what impact does this have on your issue?
What leadership style was used in your issue, did it work well, if not why not ,what would have happened if another leadership approach had been utilised , this gives you an opportunity to compare different leadership styles and you can explore the difference between leadership & management?
Are you looking at a change, if so you need to discuss what change management theory was used (if any) did it work ? Would another approach have made a difference?
Does your issue have any impact on team working, team working is a learning outcome of the module. Think about what a team is and how they can be managed effectively, most of us work in teams so it should be easy enough to include this.
What are the ethical issues in leadership, particularly in publicly funded organisations, are you asked to make decisions that you are not quite comfortable with ?
Conclusion. 1-2 slides
Do not introduce new material, summarise your ideas , restate what you think the main points are in your presentation and be clear about why these points are important.
The presentation must meet the following learning outcomes:

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the student will be expected to be able to:
Knowledge and understanding learning outcomes:
1. Explain and critically analyse the concepts of leadership and management and their application in organisations.
2. Evaluate, select and apply a range of approaches to identifying leadership and management development needs in differing organisational contexts.
3. Critically evaluate a range of leadership and management interventions to implement development strategies and plans.
4. Critically evaluate the role of leadership and management in promoting collaborative team working.

Intellectual, practical, effective and transferable skills learning outcomes:
1. Critically discuss the ethical and professional role of leaders in leadership and management practice.
2. Demonstrate an understanding of leadership and management techniques in the context of leading and managing of organisations

These learning outcomes can be understood in the following ways:
•
o 1. Whats the difference between leadership and management ? What type of leadership do you see in your organisation, is it effective?
o 2. Dependant on what the issue is, different leadership approaches will need to be used. IE at times it may be appropriate to take an autocratic approach if the issue needs dealing with quickly and safely. Conversely you may need to take a more collaborative approach if you need to bring about organisational change.
o 3. Think about what helps or hinders you when you try to bring about change.
o 4. Think about the teams you work or have worked in, what supports team working and what hinders it?
o 5. Leaders who work in publicly funded organisations may meet ethical challenges particularly when they are trying to balance the books. How do you meet those challenges.
o 6. How a situation is managed will determine its outcome. If you get it wrong there can be unforeseen circumstances for, you, your team and the client group you work with.

Anglia Ruskin modules are taught on the basis of intended learning outcomes and that, on successful completion of the module, students will be expected to be able to demonstrate they have met those outcomes. Learning outcomes in this module are grouped into two themes:
(1) Knowledge and understanding and
(2) The Intellectual, Practical, Affective and Transferable Skills.
The module assessment provides the opportunity to demonstrate you have met these outcomes. This last sentence is particularly important – When completing an assessment, you need to use the learning outcomes, on which the assessment criteria have been developed, to demonstrate to the marker you have met them.
