Access to safe drinking water is a basic human right, yet 780 million people lack access to clean water. Women and children are greatly affected by this lack of water. It is generally the role of women and children to collect water, often walking long distances only to gather enough water for the day. This water may not be safe for drinking, which then requires boiling, which requires firewood, or some other fuel source, which is also the role of the woman to collect. Children that are given unsafe drinking water are likely to contract a water-borne illness such as giardia or E. coli. Access to clean drinking water can save millions of children’s lives annually but global and country policies must support the right to clean water.

3- If access to water is a human right, why do you think it is so hard for countries to provide clean water for the entire population? Please provide examples.
