The first target of the United Nations (UN) sustainable development goal (SDG) 16 is to significantly reduce violence and the death rates associated with violence everywhere. The fourth target of SDG 3 includes the goal of promoting mental health and well-being.
For your journal assignment, address the following:
To get a sense of the landscape and how these initiatives are being pursued, research sound mental health and violence prevention policies that have been implemented. What organizations are in charge of these policies? What makes the policies effective?
Make recommendations to the organizations and stakeholders responsible for implementing the SDGs. Make one recommendation for improving mental health and one recommendation for reducing violence. You do not necessarily need to give a specific policy outline; rather, make suggestions for how stakeholders might strengthen existing efforts. For example, distributing flyers in strategic locations around campus might help college students know who to reach out to when they need emotional support.
