Introduction
Contrasts in the cognitive and communication skills of six- and eight-year-olds reflect advanced maturation. It may only be a two year difference in age but makes a world of difference in development.
The Assignment
In this assignment you will show a picture from a magazine to a child that is six years old and to a child that is eight years old.  Ask each child to tell you a story based on the picture.  The child can write the story for you or orally tell the story (if oral, you will need to record the telling of the story for submission).  Compare and contrast the developmenatal differences in the story-telling abilities of each child. You will submit (scan) the written story told by each child or submit the recording of the child telling the story.  Also be sure to scan and submit the picture you showed the children.  The picture, of course, should be the same.
Grading Criteria
Maximum points are given when:
-  Submission of the picture shown to each child.(10 points).
-  Submission of each child’s written of recorded story. (20 points each)
-  Submission of a comparison and contrast of each child’s developmental differences in story-telling.  Remember to use textbook, chapter 7, and pages 264 and 266 in text for developmental clues for each age.  At least 5-6 sentences per paragragh and at least 2 paragrahs in the comparing and contrasting.(40 points)
– Points are deducted for errors in spelling and grammar.  Also noted is clarity of the submission and students comprehension of the content. (10 points)
