For this project, you are going to design an ORIGINAL organization. Some of you have
always dreamed of opening your own business, for example… Now is your chance to
think about it in detail and say it’s for school! I expect you to incorporate theory and
concepts from our course that are relevant; you should support your writing and ideas
with scholarly/evidence-based resource. You will find it helpful to search the internet
and even ask your employer for guidance or advice. You will focus on turning in the
following five components (I have given hints/guidelines underneath each, but please
feel free to include your own ideas about what each should include) in a single, cohesive
project. Your publish and final project must be in a presentation format such as
PowerPoint, (other platforms acceptable). It may be
helpful for you to think of this presentation’s audience as potential funders for your
organization, or a recruitment tool for top candidates. Deadlines and detailed
instructions are attached as a file.
1. Name of Organization
2. Mission Statement
– Your mission statement should be a brief written statement of your organization’s
purpose
– Mission statements clarify principles and guide decisions
– Mission statements make the organizational goal(s) and clear and provide direction
3. Organizational chart
– Your chart should show the structure of your organization
– Your chart should show relationships and “ranks” between parts/departments and
positions/jobs
4. Job descriiptions
– Provide a job descriiption for each position/job in your organizational chart

– Each job descriiption is typically list of the general functions and responsibilities
– Job descriiptions usually include to whom the position reports, specifications such as
the qualifications needed by the person in the job, salary range, physical requirements,
etc.
5. Document on healthy workplace policies
– A healthy workplace is an environment where both the people are healthy and the
organization they work in is healthy.
– You are probably already aware of this, but will learn more about, the idea that
employee health is strongly connected to productivity and therefore linked with the
success of an organization. Therefore, good healthy workplace policies make
organizations more productive.
– Your “Healthy Workplace Policy” should be designed to define and support healthy
lifestyle choices within your organization. Be creative! Think about your personal values
and what YOU believe makes a healthy workplace. Then use this to CREATE YOUR OWN
ideas about healthy workplaces.
Remember: Safety policies are NOT healthy workplace policies. Of course include
them as you feel is appropriate, but realize they are different.
– Healthy workplace policies help to clarify roles and expectations between employees
and employers. They use values/beliefs related to the things that make employees
healthy, happy , and therefore productive. Examples:
* Policies regarding food choices, catering for meetings and vending machines
* Having a breastfeeding supportive workplace policy
* An exercise program or meditation room
You have four separate phases of the project and are required to submit four separate
documents for your project: 1. Proposal; 2. Outline; 3. publish; 4. Final Project.
For #1, your Project Proposal, I simply want the name of your organization and a few
sentences about the purpose and goals of the organization. You should also be
considering what presentation platform you will be using.
For #2, your Project Outline, I expect you to complete a full outline of all five
components listed above.
For #3, your Project publish, I want the basic, fleshed out ideas of all components.
REMEMBER: You must identify theories and concepts from the course, identify them,
and demonstrate how they are used/integrated into the design of your organization.
This publish must be submitted in your presentation (PowerPoint) format for me to grade it. You must include speaker notes for me to make a voice over, giving the
presentation so that i dont just read the slides. Be sure to look at the grading rubrics to earn
maximum points.
For #4, your Final Project, I want the final versions of all five components. Remember,
presentation format! Be sure to look at your grading rubrics carefully; you’ll be graded
on your ability to present the information clearly, concisely, and professionally.
